Advisor Site Visit Review – January 2026
First Impressions
From the moment you arrive, the impression is WOW — refined luxury in the heart of historic Trinidad. The main entrance of the Iberostar Grand Trinidad is locked, which is important to know, but a doorman immediately verifies guests and allows entry. Given the hotel’s location in the city center of a relatively poor but vibrant city, this added security feels both appropriate and reassuring.

Once inside, the lobby is stunning. The atmosphere is calm, elegant, and welcoming — a noticeable contrast to the lively streets just outside. The vibe is relaxed luxury, and it’s clear right away that this is a thoughtfully designed, high-end property.
It’s also worth noting that the hotel is only 21 years old, which is reflected in how well maintained and polished everything feels.

Location & Surroundings
Iberostar Grand Trinidad is located in the city centre, directly across from City Hall and Central Square. This is an ideal base for travelers who want to experience Trinidad on foot.
Nearby highlights include:
- Museo Histórico Municipal
- Plaza Mayor, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988
- Numerous shops, cafés, and local restaurants within easy walking distance
The surrounding area is lively and historic, while the hotel itself remains quiet and peaceful — offering a welcome retreat after a day of exploring.
Who This Hotel Is Best For
This property is an excellent fit for:
- Solo travelers
- Couples
- Short luxury stays
- Business travelers
- Travelers who want to experience the city and do not want a traditional all-inclusive beach resort
Families are welcome; however, I would recommend this hotel for those traveling with older children, as there are limited amenities specifically for younger kids.
The Rooms
The hotel features 40 rooms total, including:
- 12 rooms with a private terrace
- 12 rooms with park views (no terrace)
- 5 Junior Suites, 2 of which include a terrace
During my site visit, I toured a Junior Suite and a Terrace Room.
Standout features include:
- Large, beautifully finished bathrooms with separate toilet and bidet
- Generous layouts with excellent natural light
- The Terrace Room offers a large walk-in closet and a spacious private terrace overlooking Central Square

Overall, the rooms feel luxurious and very comfortable. Beds are large, spaces are bright, and the design is clean and elegant. The building includes an elevator, making it accessible for travelers with mobility considerations.
By Cuban standards, this hotel absolutely delivers on luxury.
Dining & Amenities
Dining at Iberostar Grand Trinidad is a highlight. The hotel is home to Trinidad’s first 5-fork restaurant, setting a very high standard for food in the city.
Dining options include:
- Buffet breakfast
- À la carte lunch and dinner
Breakfast is include only. This resort is not all-inclusive, which is important for travelers to be aware of. Guests should expect refined dining rather than a traditional resort-style all-inclusive experience.
Current amenities include:
- 40 guest rooms
- 1 restaurant
- 1 bar
- Cigar lounge and games room
A pool is currently under construction, which will be a welcome future addition.
One unique design element that stands out is the hotel’s layout, which mimics traditional Trinidad architecture with an open central area, allowing light and air to flow naturally through the building.

The Honest Advisor Take
Strengths:
This is the top-rated hotel in the area and it shows. Service is attentive, the atmosphere is calm and upscale, and thoughtful touches like the cigar lounge and games room elevate the guest experience.
Limitations:
- No pool (currently under construction)
- Not located on a beach (though beaches are easily accessible by taxi)
- Not all-inclusive
- Not a budget-friendly option
Travelers seeking a beach resort or a value-focused stay should look elsewhere.
Bottom Line
I would recommend Iberostar Grand Trinidad to travelers who want a luxury short stay in the heart of Trinidad, Cuba.
I rate this property 9 out of 10, with the only drawbacks being the current lack of a pool and no direct beach access — otherwise, there is very little to fault.
