If you had asked me how I expected February 5th to go, I would have said:
“Quick trip to Walmart.”
(Which, honestly, is already my least favorite way to spend an afternoon.)
Instead, while stopped at a red light — before it even turned green — we were hit from behind and pushed into the vehicle in front of us, resulting in a minor car accident.
Chain reaction.
Zero warning.
Very un-Walmart-like energy.
My first thought?
“What the heck just happened?”
I was in the passenger seat, mid-conversation with Rob, head turned toward him. So instead of the classic back-and-forth motion, my neck decided to go side-to-side like it was trying out for a dance audition.
Spoiler: it did not win.
Almost no visible damage to my Jeep Patriot (GO TEAM JEEP 💪). The other two vehicles were not nearly as lucky.
Me?
Whiplash.
And let me tell you — whiplash is no fun. Almost a week later, I’m still sore. Functional. Getting on with life. But sore.
Here’s the part that really stood out though.
The EMT crew arrived quickly. I was transported to the hospital and checked head to toe — CT scans, X-rays, the whole works. The care was thorough, kind, and efficient.
As Canadians, we gripe about our healthcare system. But when you actually need it? It shows up.
And my seatbelt? Absolute hero. It did exactly what it was designed to do.
Biggest takeaway?
Cars are replaceable. Necks are not.
Wear your seatbelt. Even on a quick Walmart run.
Because apparently, February 5th had other plans.
