Site Visit Review (January 2026)
During my recent trip to Cuba, I had the opportunity to tour Hotel Mystique Trinidad La Popa, a beautiful boutique-style property located just above the historic city of Trinidad. After spending time exploring the hotel and learning more about what it offers, I wanted to share an honest overview for anyone considering staying here.
🎥 Take a quick walk-through of Hotel Mystique Trinidad La Popa in the video below.
First Impressions & Location of Hotel Mystique Trinidad La Popa
Hotel Mystique Trinidad La Popa is perched on the hillside overlooking historic Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The elevated location offers stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape — especially from the upper floors and terraces.
What makes this property even more unique is its history. The building originally dates back to 1760, when it served as a military hospital. After a thoughtful restoration, it officially reopened as Hotel Mystique Trinidad La Popa in 2019, blending historic architecture with modern comfort. One of the original walls still remain in the 24 hour snack bar.
The hotel is located approximately 500 meters from the city, making it very convenient for sightseeing, dining, and nightlife. That said, the cobblestone road leading into town is quite steep, so you may choose to take a quick taxi ride, which is inexpensive and readily available.

Rooms & Amenities
The rooms at Hotel Mystique are very spacious, with a clean, modern feel. Many rooms — especially on the upper floors — feature private terraces with stunning views over Trinidad.
Room highlights include:
- Large, comfortable layouts
- Spacious bathrooms with separate toilet areas
- Stocked mini-fridge
- In-room safe

⚠️ Important note: There are no elevators, so guests with mobility concerns should request a ground-floor room.
Food, Drinks & Atmosphere
The hotel offers:
- A restaurant serving both buffet and à la carte meals
- A 24-hour snack bar with food and drinks
- A relaxed bar area that can also be used for private events

During my visit, I took part in a daily mixology class, where we learned how to make the traditional Cuban Canchánchara — a delicious blend of rum, cane sugar, honey, lemon, and a splash of water or club soda, served in small clay cups. It was absolutely delicious and reminded me a bit of a Cuban version of a Moscow Mule.
Meal service works as follows:
- Buffet-style dining when there are 35 guests or fewer
- À la carte dining when occupancy exceeds35 guests
While the hotel is not all-inclusive, meal packages are available, and guests also have the option to explore the many fantastic restaurants in Trinidad.
Pool & Common Areas
The pool is on the smaller side but very well maintained and perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring. The lobby area is warm and inviting, with comfortable leather seating and a relaxed atmosphere.
There is also a small event and meeting space, which can be set up for:
- Business meetings
- Small celebrations
- Birthday gatherings
- Wedding receptions
The hotel staff handles all setup, making it a great option for intimate events.
Beach Access & Transportation
While the hotel is not beachfront, the nearest beach is about a 10–15 minute taxi ride away, making it easy to combine city exploration with beach time.
For guests who prefer not to take a taxi, there is also a convenient shuttle bus that runs hourly from several locations throughout the city to the nearby beach areas. The cost is $5 USD round trip, making it an easy and affordable option for spending the day by the sea.
Service & Staff
The service here truly stands out.
The Public Relations Manager, Darianne, is an absolute gem — warm, attentive, and genuinely focused on making sure every guest feels comfortable, welcomed, and well cared for.

That personal touch really adds to the overall experience.
