Resort Review: Memories Cayo Largo, Cuba

I visited Memories Cayo Largo Cuba in October 2025, which falls during the slow season—and honestly, that was a big part of the appeal for me. The resort was quiet, calm, and unhurried. If your idea of a perfect vacation includes peaceful mornings, empty loungers, and the sound of the ocean instead of poolside hype, this is your kind of place.

The Room & Resort Layout

I stayed on the ground floor of one of the bungalow-style buildings. The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable, though I’ll be honest—it is a bit dated. That said, everything worked, housekeeping did a great job, and I never felt uncomfortable or cramped.

The resort is large, but thoughtfully laid out and easy to navigate, even if mobility is a concern. Nothing ever felt rushed or chaotic—very much a “take your time” destination.

The Beach (The Real Star)

Let’s talk about the beach—because wow. The beach at Memories is absolutely stunning: powdery white sand and that unreal, postcard-perfect turquoise water Cuba is known for. It’s the kind of beach where you stop mid-walk just to stare at the colour of the sea.

The beaches in Cuba are stunning

That said, the true stars of the island are Sirena Beach and Playa Paraiso.
You can hop on a bus from the resort and spend the day at either—or both—and I highly recommend doing exactly that. These beaches are next-level beautiful, wide open, and wonderfully undeveloped. Bring sunscreen, a book, and your camera—you’ll want all three.

Food & Dining

Food was surprisingly very good. There were plenty of options, meals were consistent, and I never once worried about going hungry. Is it luxury fine dining? No. But it’s solid, satisfying, and far better than many travelers expect in a remote Cuban destination.

The Turtle Sanctuary

One experience that truly stood out for me was visiting the turtle sanctuary, located in the village, which is an absolute must-see when staying at the resort. Depending on the time of year, you may be lucky enough to witness baby sea turtles up close—and I was. Being able to gently hold a baby turtle was such a special, humbling moment and something I’ll never forget. The sanctuary does incredible conservation work, and the turtles are released weekly onto the beach, beginning their journey to the ocean right where you’re standing. It’s a beautiful reminder of how untouched and special Cayo Largo really is, and an experience that adds so much meaning to the trip beyond just sun and sand.

The Vibe & Who This Resort Is For

Cayo Largo is not a party destination—and that’s precisely its charm. It’s best suited for travelers who want quiet, peaceful, and unplugged time. Think couples, solo travelers, nature lovers, and anyone who just needs a break from noise and schedules.

A couple of important things to know:

  • Parts of the beach on the island are designated for nudism, so it’s important to be mindful of that (and comfortable with it).
  • There are several other resorts on the island, but many are currently not in operation due to hurricane damage in recent years. This adds to the feeling of isolation—beautiful, but very remote.

Final Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Memories Cayo Largo. It’s not about luxury or nightlife—it’s about tranquility, stunning natural beauty, and slowing down. If you’re craving peace, jaw-dropping beaches, and a chance to truly disconnect, Cayo Largo delivers that in the best way possible.

This is one of those destinations you choose on purpose—and if you do, you’ll understand why I loved it so much. 🌊✨
